Youth Instructional Programs

UPRD is partnering with St. Louis Children’s Hospital to offer four community classes this winter:

Babysitting 101 _12.29.2017 005
Babysitting 101 - two seperate classes are being offered; Friday, November 2 and Friday, December 28 from 9am-1pm; Union R-XI School District is not in session either day. The class is recommended for children 10 years of age and older and is a great introduction to the basics of babysitting. The class is taught by an instructor from St. Louis Children’s Hospital. A light snack, backpack and a 28-page workbook are provided. Topics that will be covered include business of babysitting, child development, safety/first aid and fun/games. Class fee is $30 per participant.

Family & Friends CPR
-will be held on Monday, December 17 from 6:30-9pm. Instruction and hands-on practice for parents, child care providers and teenagers who babysit (ages 10-15 MUST be accompanied by an adult) will include: adult hands-only CPR, infant/child CPR with breaths, introduction to adult/child AED use and relief of choking in adult/child/infant. Course facilitators (SLCH registered nurses) use the American Heart Association video-led curriculum and lead skills practice throughout the class. Participants are not "certified" with this class, but will receive card saying they participated in the class. Participants do not have to get down on floor. Mannequin is used and can be placed on table. Each participant has their own mannequin. Class fee is $25 per participant.

Staying Home Alone
will be held on Thursday, December 27 from 6:30-8pm. This parent-child class, led by a St. Louis Children’s Hospital facilitator, will help parents and children determine the child's physical, mental, social and emotional readiness to stay home by themselves. The goal of the class is to help prepare children for the staying home alone experience. Class fee is $25 per family, that must include a minimum of one parent and one child. There is no maximum number of family members.

Classes will be held in Room #3 in the lower level of Union City Hall, located at 500 E. Locust Street. Participants are asked to enter the door (next to table shelter with maroon roof) off the east-side parking lot.

Both city residents and non-residents are welcome. Registration is required for all classes and can be completed by contacting St. Louis Children’s Hospital at 314.454.KIDS (5437). Union Soccer Association (USA) Registration: Open from April 15, 2018 through June 30, 2018. For participants between 6-18 years of age, fee is $65.00 for one player, $105.00 for two players, $140.00 for 3 or more players. For participants between 4-5 years of age, Peewee fee is $30.00 per player and must be 4 years of age by August 1, 2018.
