Community > East Central College
Founded in 1968, East Central College was established to serve the educational needs of people in east central Missouri.
As a public, co-educational community college, ECC maintains an open-door policy of accepting all students interested in obtaining a college education. The commitment to personalized education is supported by a strong belief in the practical value of both academic and career/technical education.
One year after voters created the college district, classes for 476 students were first held in temporary facilities at Union City Hall. That same year, a 114-acre tract of land was purchased east of town, bordered on the north by Highway 50. Over the past four decades, the campus has grown to include seven major buildings on over 200 acres.
Today, this two-year college serves over 4,200 each semester. ECC offers four different Associate Degrees for students planning to pursue a Bachelorís Degree, and more than 30 Associate of Applied Science/Certificate programs for students preparing to enter the workforce after graduation. In addition to the main campus in Union, ECC also offers courses at locations in Rolla, Sullivan, Warrenton and Washington.
ECC provides a support system to ensure student success and small classes give faculty members the opportunity to know the students. Providing a quality education at a reasonable price has always been important, so tuition and general fees at ECC are consistently among the lowest in the state.
In addition to menís soccer and womenís softball and volleyball, ECC students can participate in a wide range of extracurricular activities. The college also plays other important roles in the region by sponsoring cultural events throughout the year and by working in partnership with the local business community to offer customized training and continuing education options.
